Dear all, this morning we ran into a database error with our maxdb which caused it to crash. After a manual restart it seems to run fine again. It is the first crash since we started the database about 2 years ago. The applications (perl) connecting against the database have not changed during the last days, so we have no idea what the possible error could be. The MaxDB is running on Solaris 10 Any help is appreciated.

Solaris 11 Install

Hi, gratulations for not having major problems during the last 2 years. Now you have trouble with a feature named Shared SQL which means that several tasks can share the internal structures prepared for one statement. When trying to store this info for a new command the kernel crashed for some reason. Therefore it is clear that after a restart everything works fine again as after restart all these internal info is gone and will be prepared anew for the statements sent to the kernel. As YOUR data does not cause the trouble, YOUR data is fine, not corrupted at all, you have three opportunities: - hope, that this trouble will not arise again (or not within the next mooooooonths/years) - switch off this feature named SharedSQL (this is the installation parameter-name, which could be set to NO).

If usually only one task does one statement (and not 10 tasks doing the same thing with different data) this switching-off would not matter. increase the size of installation parameter SHAREDSQLCOMMANDCACHESIZE, so that being-full-problems of this cache holding the internal structures will not arise within the near future. Hope this helps, Elke 0 Likes 0.
